Some of the most well-known functional mushrooms include:

1. Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum): Known for its potential to support relaxation and sleep, as well as immune system support.
2. Lion's Mane (Hericium erinaceus): Believed to support brain health, cognitive function, and nerve growth.
3. Chaga (Inonotus obliquus): Often used for its antioxidant properties and to support immune health.
4. Cordyceps: Traditionally used to support energy and athletic performance.
5. Shiitake (Lentinula edodes): Known for its immune-supporting and cardiovascular health benefits.

No. The commercial sale and cultivation of psychedelic mushrooms in Portugal is illegal.

Psychedelic mushrooms, also known as "magic mushrooms" or "psilocybin mushrooms," differ significantly from functional mushrooms in terms of their effects and uses.

Overall, the key difference lies in the presence of the psychoactive compound psilocybin in psychedelic mushrooms, which causes significant alterations in perception and consciousness, compared to functional mushrooms that are used for health-promoting purposes without inducing psychoactive effects.

Functional mushrooms have been utilized for their health benefits for thousands of years, a fact supported by numerous research studies. The primary advantage they offer is enhanced immune health, thanks to their content of beta glucans—substances crucial for immune system function that humans do not naturally produce. Thus, functional mushrooms are vital for maintaining daily health and wellness. Beyond bolstering the immune system, each mushroom species offers unique benefits. These include support for cognitive and neurological functions, gut and cardiovascular health, bone maintenance, healthy blood sugar levels, liver function, and beauty (promoting healthy hair, skin, and nails). Additionally, they contribute to vitality, improved sports performance and recovery, and help manage occasional physical and mental stress.

Most of the bioactive nutrients in functional mushrooms remain stable when exposed to high temperatures. However, certain enzymes and vitamins may degrade slightly with heat. Interestingly, specific compounds like beta glucans might become more bioavailable when consumed in hot liquids or cooked in foods.

Natural health sources suggest safety to introduce functional mushrooms from 3 years old, starting with very low doses for young children, usually about one-half of the recommended adult dose. However, dosage and specific mushroom types may vary depending on the child's age, health status, and nutritional needs.

Lion’s Mane, Reishi, and Agaricus Blazei are considered some of the options for kids, often introduced for potential immune or cognitive benefits, but we always recommend consulting with a pediatrician before use.

Our functional mushroom products are not medications and should be viewed as dietary support that can support general wellness, similar to other superfoods. We do advise not exceeding the recommended daily dose and to treat these products as a part of a varied and balanced diet.
